Another Mistake in the Making?

Attacking Iraq (twice) was a mistake, attacking Libya was a mistake and gave rise to IS, ISIL, Daesh, whatever you want to call the power hungry, heinous, murdering hordes that are rampaging in the Middle East and giving rise to deluded religious fanatics in Europe and elsewhere.

The US and UK are engaged in air strikes against ISIL in Syria and Iraq in the US case and currently only in Iraq by the UK. The UK government is about to consider expanding strikes into Syria also. Another mistake? I think so. Attack by air can never defeat these thugs and more importantly thousands of innocent people will be killed in the process giving rise to even more hatred of the West and so becoming a recruiting sergeant for more terrorists. There is an argument that troops on the ground is the only way to defeat them but as we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan, you can defeat a nation and impose a new government under the guise of a flawed democracy but you cannot impose peace. Thousands of bombs have been dropped in the last year and yet ISIL is unmoved and the lack of western triumphalist videos and news reports rather make the case for me.

So if air strikes can’t ‘win’ and using western troops on the ground is politically unacceptable to the electorate, as is the case at present, what should the West do? This is always the question asked but never the question “Should we do anything?” We first have to accept the fact that the West is Capitalist and Capitalism cares nothing about the suffering of people and only has an interest in money. Having accepted that point we can move on and see that the death and destruction wreaked upon the Middle East was not to free a people from Saddam Hussein or the Taliban but to ensure reliable cheap oil supplies from Iraq and the hope of building an oil and gas pipeline across Afghanistan. The result as we can see has been utter chaos; we may be getting cheap oil by way of repayment of Iraqi debt (incurred by the war) but the pipeline is still too risky a project and ISIL has been born and is a bigger threat to Capitalist hopes than before.

As I said and history has shown, peace in the region cannot be forced by western arms so just suppose we pulled right out and indeed did nothing. Middle Eastern nations are awash with wealth and stocked to the skies with armaments, supplied by us of course. Leave them all to get on with it and maybe, just maybe, the two wings of Islam might cease their squabbling and co-operate against the common threat of ISIL and with the excuse of Western infidels removed it would focus their minds. We may have to cut down a little on oil imports which is no bad thing but the Arab need and greed for cash would ensure it kept flowing. In addition by removing ourselves as a perceived threat to the region and also to Islam we would vastly lower or remove the risk of terrorist attacks in our own cities. We would of course, be morally bound not to supply arms to any other nation and perhaps there is the rub. Arms sales equals deaths equals Capitalist profits.

Hypocrisy is Alive and Well

Checking first that Libya and Saudi Arabia will make up the shortfall the EU is expected to increase the sanctions on Iran which is reasonably suspected of developing nuclear weapons, by putting an embargo on Iran’s oil exports.

What bloody hypocrisy! The Nuclear non Proliferation Pact, of which Iran is a signatory, agreed that the nuclear weapon holding countries would not use them against non nuclear countries and would, over time, reduce and eventually eliminate these horrors of mass destruction. Well they have reduced the numbers but vastly increased the power and accuracy of nuclear weapons. In addition, Israel, with their friend the USA turning a blind eye have acquired NW’s and defy over 150 UN resolutions without any sanction at all. Israel has attacked Iran in the past albeit with conventional targeted weapons.

Is it any wonder that Iran now seems Hell bent on acquiring NWs as defence against such a belligerent near neighbour and it’s friend across the Atlantic backing Israel openly and covertly.

Today the ‘Nuclear Clock’ went forward one minute. See http://www.thebulletin.org/content/media-center/announcements/2012/01/10/doomsday-clock-moves-1-minute-closer-to-midnight

Can’t They See?

Gordon Brown, trotting along behind the latest US President, will today make yet another warning to Iran about it’s nuclear programme and threatening even more sanctions if it goes ahead with suspected nuclear weapon manufacture.

Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty which means that it agrees not to produce weapons and is subject to inspection and ALSO that the nuclear powers promise not to use nuclear weapons against them AND to progressively reduce their weapon stocks eventually to zero.

Pakistan and India, South Africa too probably, defy this arrangement with no comment from the West. Israel however, never signed the agreement and is reckoned to hold between 75 – 200 nuclear warheads and is therefore exempt from inspection. No sanctions on Israel with any suggestion in the UN beingĀ  blocked by the US.

Can’t the West see just how unfair and unjust they are being and make appropriate changes to their policies?

Cold War…… Again

The USA signs deals with Poland and the Czech Republic for placing anti missile defences on their land and the UK of course is happy to have missile listening posts at Fylingdales all to protect America from a possible attack. Attack from who is unknown in reality. Iran is suggested but they are many years away from developing any possibility of reaching the US and have no reason to do so UNLESS the US forces them into it. Russia also, will feel increasingly isolated and surrounded and will undoubtedly respond by increasing it’s nuclear capability. The Cold War all over again.

The Soviet Union was defeated eventually by the vast wealth of the US paying for ever increasing arms build up and so the need for the Soviets to respond in kind but this time around the US is all but bankrupt so the risks involved in this repeated strategy are greater.

While trying to force nations such as Iran away from even nuclear power the US props up Israel and has just done a deal with India supplying it with nuclear fuel and considers (for the time being at least) Pakistan an ally. All three countries are non signatories to the nuclear non proliferation treaty and breaches of UN resolutions abound. What hypocrites!

Update: Iran test missiles and is condemed by the US and Israel for being ‘provoctative’! The US threatens Iran and Israel carries out a rehersal for an attack on Iran and nothing is said. Double hipocracy! freethinkeruk is not an apologist for Iran but let’s have just a pinch of reality and natural justice please.

Media Manipulation

Few words are needed here so just watch the video and pass it on and be cautious, very cautious, when you view any interview in the future.

Israeli Preparations

Israel yesterday carried out exercises over the Mediterranean in preparation for an attack on Iran and so the insanity continues. At least the United States in the 80’s were upfront with their insanity by calling their ‘defence’ programme M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction)

I am not anti Israel or anti Jew (before someone jumps in with accusations) and I believe in a two State solution to the Israeli/Palestinian mess. Israel though, is in breach of numerous U.N. resolutions as well as the nuclear non proliferation pact and nothing, I repeat, nothing, is done about it except for massive financial investment by the U.S. They are also supplied by the West with military hardware and technology.

No one knows for certain whether Iran is developing nuclear weapons or not and let’s face it, we were assured that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction which turned out to be nonsense. Even if they are, can we really blame them? Just take a bird’s eye view of Iran on a map; they are almost completely surrounded by either countries occupied by US lead western powers, or countries whose governments are pro western. Even that part of the Persian Gulf forming a part of Iran’s border is stuffed with patrolling western warships. The first duty of ANY government is to protect it’s people, so can we, if we’re honest, blame or even be surprised if Iran seeks to match the threats that are so often directed against it.

The original signatories to the nuclear non proliferation pact, US, UK, France, Russia & China, are all in breach of that agreement by not decreasing and eventually eliminating nuclear weapons. Nothing is said or done about this either and why not? Because all five are permanent members of the UN Security Council with each one, separately or together having a veto.

The madness continues and we cannot be lucky all of the time, we must choose another way.

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.”

They take us for fools!

So President Bush pays the UK a visit and what is the immediate result? Puppet no. 2 after Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, is patted on the back for having more troops in Iraq than he said he would at this time. Next G.B. announces that he is sending even more troops to Afghanistan to make it the highest number ever. Then says he will urge Europe to extend sanctions on Iran including on oil and gas. Er, isn’t there a huge shortage of these which is pushing up prices to near crisis level?

Yesterday Bush said the Taliban was smashed and on the run and Afghanistan was becoming a free and democratic nation. Well, Kabul might be just approaching that ideal but in the rest of the country the Taliban are overseeing the biggest harvest of poppies for heroin production ever, this to be imported into the West. The Taliban attacked a prison only a couple of days ago and released around a thousand prisoners, many of them fighters. Doesn’t sound like a defeated force to me and sadly 102 of our young men in the army have been killed, five last week and hundreds more horribly injured and maimed.

Now I wouldn’t like to see Iran with nuclear weapons and the means of delivery, however, if ‘we’ refuse to honour our agreements by reducing and eventually eliminating these terrors, how can we possibly complain when another country, Iran in this case, says you rely on them why shouldn’t we?

Do these leaders really think that we don’t know what is going on? Do they believe that we don’t see through their ‘double speak’? Do they think we are all fools? The answer to all three questions, regrettably, is yes.
