The most popular boy’s name in Britain is? Gary, John, Peter, even Oscar?
No! It’s Mohammed.
It’s a funny twisted world of politics we have to survive in isn’t it? Baroness Warsi the Chair of the Tory Party and herself a Muslim (no bias here then) has said that the coalition “does God” unlike the Labour Party. She said that ‘Labour acted as if faith was confined to “oddities, foreigners and minorities’.
Hmm! Interesting! Let’s have a closer look. There’s quite a few ‘odd’ faiths around, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons spring easily to mind. ‘Foreigners’ and their offspring make up a large proportion of the Eastern faiths along with Catholics from Eastern Europe. Figures also show that less than 10% of our population regularly attend a church, mosque, synagogue etc so that is definitely a ‘minority’. QED
Tony Blair despite being as close to a war criminal as you can get without being convicted, is a ‘devout’ Christian and a convert to Roman Catholicism. On the other hand David Cameron said his faith “is a bit like the reception for Magic FM in the Chilterns, it sort of comes and goes”. Nick Clegg is an atheist.
One can’t help but wonder if the coalition ‘does God’ because the ‘Big Society’ will require unpaid volunteers and the religions are always keen to get involved as a way of peddling their beliefs.
Damian Green the minister for immigration has said that to pass a law banning the wearing of the burkha would be ‘un-British. He said “Telling people what they can and can’t wear, if they’re just walking down the street, is a rather un-British thing to do.”
Perhaps it’s me but I don’t see anything British about women, either by choice or being forced into it by their husbands, walking down a British street covered head to toe in a black cloth with just a slit to see out of. I don’t, either, see anything British about about one rule for one section of our society and another rule for others. If, for example, I am wearing my motorcycle helmet I will not be allowed into a bank or into most Post Offices along with most city shopping malls.
UPDATE: Syria ( a very islamic country you would agree) has banned veils from it’s universities.
A private members bill is to be debated today in Parliament, which if passed into law (unlikely) would make it possible for catholics to inherit the crown and become head of state. The bill also proposes to abolish discrimination against females in line for the throne.
Well, quite right too, this is the 21st centuary after all is said and done and fairness, equality without any discrimination should prevail.
Hang on though! If we agree and I can’t imagine anyone of sound mind disagreeing, that ‘fairness, equality without any discrimination should prevail’ then obviously the head of state should be elected to that position. In that same spirit of course, the Queen or her heirs could also stand for election.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, has said that God will not intervene to protect us from global warming and associated disasters even the “ultimate tragedy” of humanity gradually “choked, drowned, or starved by its own stupidity.”
Oh Dear! There was me relying on a divine breath of fresh air to blow away all the carbon dioxide and re-freeze the arctic and antarctic seas to lower the levels. Better have another think then!
A Hindu, Baba Ghai, living in Britain is appealing to the High Court for the right to be cremated in the open air rather than in a crematorium. His request was turned down by Newcastle City Council citing the 1902 Cremation Act.
Let’s hope that the High Court has some sense and rejects this appeal otherwise who knows what’s next. A Buddhist sect taking corpes to a hill top where they are dismembered and fed to, what, crows? There being a shortage of vultures in the UK. Or perhaps a wooden frame in a tree somewhere for the corpse to be picked at.

High on a plane flying over Africa below which were millions of people suffering and dying from AIDS the Pope again stated that using condoms was against the Roman Catholic Church teaching. Fidelity and abstinence was the answer.
What a nutter! It’s like telling the incoming tide to go out instead. Given that there are huge numbers of catholics in Africa this idiot must be personally responsible for incalculable numbers of deaths, misery and orphans. Once again the church uses sex in it’s game of control.
The sooner religions disappear from the face of the earth the better for everyone but it’ll be a long wait, sadly.
Yesterday in Luton the East Anglian regiment marched through the town on it’s return from active service in Iraq. They were met by Muslim protesters waving banners saying ‘Anglian Regiment Go to Hell’ and shouts of “Anglian Soldiers: Butchers of Basra” and “Anglian Soldiers: cowards, killers, extremists”. Now Freethinkeruk is no supporter of the Iraq invasion nor our involvement in Afghanistan but I support our military personnel as individuals who are merely pawns in this political game.
A friend of mine has recently suffered the loss of her 40 year old son who lived in Leicester. She has to wait for three weeks before the cremation can take place. This is an awfully long time for anyone to wait to begin the process of closure. So why is it such a long wait? The undertaker explained that Muslims get priority as their religion requires quick burial or cremation because of the health risks in the heat of the sun. What sun here in late winter in the UK? Don’t we also have fridges for any delay? Why should Muslims get priority in this sad matter or any other?
Anyone who knows me would confirm that I am neither a racist nor a bigot but in these ridiculous politically correct times I run the risk of being called or thought as such simply for speaking my mind and so beit. We, or rather successive governments, are giving away our nation. We changed our anti cruelty to animals laws to allow Halal meat, we have allowed mass immigration to swamp many of our ancient towns and cities, we spend a fortune on schemes to supposedly integrate Asians in the main into our society.
It is time to say enough is enough. Further mass immigration halted, no more concessions to culture or religions. A statement must be made clear that this is our country and you are welcome provided that you fit in with us and if you don’t wish to do so then don’t come here.
A head teacher at a primary school in Sheffield found herself in the middle of a protest when she wanted to introduce a single act of worship rather than the separate assemblies that were happening before her arrival two years ago. Parents complained about her intention to scrap separate assemblies for Muslim pupils and the head teacher, Julia Robinson, has now resigned.
Two issues emerge from this. Firstly, should there be separate acts of worship for various religious groups? I think not as this will engender feelings of difference rather community and this born out by the education act 1944 which states that a single act of worship be carried out each day and mainly of a Christian nature. Parents though have the right to opt out and keep their children away from this assembly and of course maintain a ‘difference’.
A more fundamental question would be; should our children be subjected to an act of worship at all? The job of our schools is to educate and so, yes, they should be informed about all the different religions and their practices. They should not though be indoctrinated into any religious practice.
I hope the time will soon come when our education system will make a fundamental change and become purely secular and teach only what is known to be true.
